SUKAGlucan Glucanase
INTRODUCTION
Polymeric b-glucans contains four b-D-glucopyranosyl units linked by a 1,3 bond and two consecutive 1,4 bonds as the major structural unit. Polymeric mixed glucans of the type mentioned above are present in varying amounts in virtually all cereal products (barley, rye, sorghum, oats and wheat).
In the brewing industry, barley is a common carbohydrate adjunct. However, its use has caused problems in processing, particularly due to the increased viscosity of the wort caused by the presence of a gummy, high molecular weight polymer of D-glucose containing beta-1-3 and beta-1-4 glycosidic linkages, i.e. barley beta-glucan.
Cereals such as wheat, barley and rye are incorporated into animal feeds to provide a major source of energy. However, the presence of non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) causes high gut viscosity that interferes with digestion. The use of selected carbohydrases like b-glucanase to break down NSP can release nutrients (energy and protein) as well as reduce the viscosity of the gut contents to improve feed utilization.
DESCRIPTION
SUKAGlucan is a b-glucanase enzyme preparation obtained from the submerged fermentation of a high b-glucanase -producing microbial strain. The product can be used as processing aid in brewing, juice extraction, wine clarification, and animal feed. The high level of b-1,3-1,4-glucanase allows it to break down glucans in poultry and swine diets containing high amounts of barley, wheat, rye, triticale, and other cereals. It is also used in the brewing industry to hydrolyze glucans which interfere with the clarification of wort and filtration of beer.
WORKING MECHANISM
SUKAGlucan can be used to break down glucans in poultry and swine diets containing high amounts of barley, wheat, rye, triticale, and other certain cereals to improve feed utilization, optimize nutrient uptake and increase growth performance.
The higher thermal stability of microbial b-glucanases enables brewers to adjust the mashing process, by using higher temperature and shorter mashing duration. b-glucanases may also be added at the fermentor or maturation stage to treat glucan hazes that give problems during the final beer filtration steps.
PROPERTIES
SUKAGlucan provides maximal benefit at pH 4.0-5.0 and at the temperature of 30-60℃ (86-140°F).
SPECIFICATION
SUKAGlucan is available in solid preparation as:
SUKAGlucan PW 10 (with enzyme activity of 10,000 U/g)
Unit definition: The amount of enzyme needed to liberate 1 ug glucose from b–glucan in one minute at specified conditions.
APPLICATION GUIDE
For use as a feed additive, SUKAGlucan can be added to the mix at a rate of 0.05-
0.1%.
PACKAGING
SUKAGlucan is packaged in 25 kg/plastic drum.
Alternative packaging is available upon request for smaller or larger volumes.
STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight. SUKAGlucan maintains its activity for considerably longer time when stored at lower temperatures (below 25℃). The product should not be frozen.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
SUKAGlucan is non-toxic and biodegradable. However, unnecessary contact with the product should be avoided. Long term exposure to protein based products such as SUKAGlucan may sensitize certain individuals to the product. Wash hands with warm soapy water after handling. Keep out of reach of children.
